Healthcare Commercial Production Case Study

How n2 Productions helped bring a bilingual recurring donation campaign to life using AI animatics, LED wall environments, Unreal Engine scenes, and hospital location shoots.

Setting the Scene

  • Executive Producer & Director: Neil Nunez
  • Production Partner: n2 Productions
  • Agency Partner: AB&A Advertising
  • Project Type: Bilingual Broadcast & Digital Campaign
  • Campaign Goal: Drive recurring monthly donations of $19/month
  • Timeline: 5 shoot days total (3 LED wall stage days + 2 hospital location days)
  • Primary Output: 2 x 60-second spots + 2 x 30-second cut-downs in both English and Spanish (8 deliverables total)

The Vision

To drive a high-volume recurring donation campaign, Neil Nunez and the n2 team designed a production system that balanced high-tech virtual environments with the human-centric mission of pediatric care. By pioneering an AI-to-LED volume workflow, Neil ensured the foundation could capture a massive library of 27 locations without the logistical overhead of a month-long location shoot.

The Production Challenge

The campaign needed more than 27 distinct location looks, including a cafe, bakery exterior, supermarket, living room, and executive office. But the production schedule and budget did not support a traditional location-heavy approach.

At the same time, the client had already approved a specific visual standard based on AI animatics. That meant the final production could not simply “capture the idea.” It had to match the approved look closely enough that virtual and practical footage would cut together as one seamless campaign.

THE STRATEGIC ADVANTAGE: BEYOND THE LENS

By integrating an AI-to-LED workflow, we didn’t just meet the deadline—we maximized the production value per dollar. Neil Nunez engineered a workflow that condensed 27 distinct locations into a single stage footprint. This eliminated six days of company moves and permitting, allowing more time for performance and lighting. Because the AI animatics were approved before the sets were built, the final frames achieved a 95% visual match to the client’s approved concepts.

Starting with AI Animatics

AB&A provided reference images for each campaign character. n2 turned those into AI-generated talking-head animatics so the client could review near-finished scene intent before casting and principal photography began.

Instead of relying on static storyboards, the team used motion-based approvals to establish a clearer visual target early in pre-production.

Turning Approved Visuals Into LED Wall Plates

Once the animatics were approved, n2 built a workflow to convert those AI references into production-ready background plates for the LED wall. The goal was not just to create usable environments, but to make sure those environments held up under real camera optics and real on-set lighting.

  1. Extract still frames from approved AI animatics.
  2. Remove foreground characters (NanoBanana) to isolate environments.
  3. Refocus soft AI backgrounds using image generation so plates remained clean and usable.
  4. Scale plates to realistic spatial proportions for actor-to-background consistency on stage.
  5. Project plates on LED wall and let camera optics create natural depth, avoiding artificial "double blur."

Building What AI Couldn’t Cover

Two environments could not be recreated from the AI plate workflow alone, so n2 worked with a Virtual Art Director to build and light Unreal Engine scenes that could track in real time on the LED wall. This gave the team high control while keeping the visual standard consistent with the rest of the campaign.

Bringing the Campaign Into the Hospital

Two additional shoot days took place at the leading Pediatric Health Foundation Hospital. To preserve continuity between virtual and practical scenes, the DP shot wide open to match the shallow depth of field established on the LED wall stage, helping the full campaign cut together as a single visual system.

How n2 Brought It Together

n2 did not just produce the campaign. The team built a production system that could support the creative direction already approved by the client while controlling schedule, visual consistency, and location complexity. That included AI-driven approvals, engineered LED workflows, Unreal Engine scene builds, hospital shoot days, and full production oversight from direction through post.

  • Engineered LED plate workflows for scalable multi-location simulation
  • Unreal Engine scene development for high-control virtual sets
  • On-location hospital cinematography matched to stage visuals
  • End-to-end production leadership (direction, producer oversight, DP coordination, art direction, post oversight)

Additional creative and technical outputs included:

  • Graphics/end card system (QR code, "Give $19 a Month" CTA, logo lockup)
  • Music supervision and Spanish-language adaptation

Why This Production Approach Mattered

8 Why this production o Healthcare Commercial Production Case Study

  1. AI can act as production infrastructure, not just a concepting tool, when integrated into approval and plate-generation workflows.
  2. Matching approved AI visuals requires strict discipline in scale, optics, and lighting continuity from pre-production through camera.
  3. LED wall + selective Unreal builds can replace a large portion of location complexity while preserving visual quality.
  4. DP experience with virtual production is a critical success factor when scenes depend on believable light interaction between talent and projected environments.
