Producing video interviews in family homes

Sometimes “simple” interviews with real people in real family homes require a little something extra to make it all come together and look great. Of course, I am being a little sarcastic when I say “a Iittle something extra.” There is actually quite a bit of lighting used in this interview setup, some that you don’t see in this video. There is also a lot of lighting control gear as well, to make the lighting more flattering to our female subjects. All the light had to be bounced and/or diffused, reducing the intensity of our lighting instruments. Another challenge with lighting and shooting videos in someone’s home as opposed to a set is that you really have to be careful not to knock over, break, or scratch anything, including the floors and walls. Most houses are not designed to accommodate video production, and power outlets are often scarce. Add to that the myriad of power and signal cables that are needed for lights, cameras, and sound, and it could become a convoluted mess just waiting for an accident of some sort. Luckily we have a great team of video production pros that know how to rig it all up correctly and avoid mishaps. At n2 we have all the right lighting and video production tools in-house, for those pros to work with.
